The hardest part of being a stay at home parent is that, no matter what is going on with you, you’re still solely responsible for your kids most of the day. You don’t have daycare taking your kids off your hands when you’re stuck in bed or with your head in the toilet.
Cold and flu season has been dragging on for what seems like forever, along with terrible weather. Sometimes you just have to keep your kid occupied. Whenever possible, I try to keep my kids busy with audio and activity books. But sometimes it doesn’t work. Instead of sticking your kid in front of all the movies, try mixing it up with a few of these screen time picks.
Bo on the Go
Get your kid moving with this audience participation show! Viewers help Bo have adventures by moving along with her, hopefully tiring them out before nap time. Check it out on Netflix.
Cosmic Kids Yoga
Cosmic Kids tells stories through kid friendly yoga. The stories are engaging and teach morals and self esteem. It’s great for winding down at the end of the day, or calming anxiety. Buy the DVDs or stream it on Amazon.
Field Trip Zoom
For only $50 a year you can have access to Field Trip Zoom’s educational programming. It’s like being able to take field trips all over the country, and never change out of your pajamas. Register for a live program so your kids can ask experts questions in real time, or browse their pre-recorded programs.
Educational Apps & Computer Games
You can also check out ABC Mouse from your local library for almost unlimited educational computer games, tailored to your child’s level.
Trick your kids into thinking they’re getting screen time when they’re actually reading! If you need extra persuasion, some ebooks have interactive features. Others will read to your kid.
What screen time do you only sort of count? Add your ideas in the comments!
